Position Overview

Position Summary:

Under general supervision oversees coaching and recruiting of student athletes for NIRA program. This is a part-time position and reports to the Athletic Coordinator.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:



  • Schedules, supervises, attends, and coaches all weekly practice sessions for student athletes; promotes and maintains safe practice and performance environment.
  • Manages the well-being of the practice stock, equipment, stalls, pens, and arenas and the ground preparation of all practice arenas; researches, locates, and purchases all hay, feed, supplements, vaccinations, and medicines needed to properly maintain practice livestock; transports livestock as needed.
  • Actively participates in the construction or maintenance of any rodeo facility as needed.
  • Leads and initiates a systematic effort which prepares and emphasizes rodeo student graduation; promotes academic excellence within the rodeo program.
  • Supervises program in conformation with the NIRA rules and regulations; attends NIRA rodeos as scheduled.
  • Enters rodeo student athletes into regional rodeos (NIRA).
  • Recruits rodeo student athletes and maintains all participant paperwork for eligibility and rodeo entrance.
  • Initiates the acquisition of practice stock and finalizes the acquisition agreements with college administrators; oversees the rodeo operating budget in coordination with the Athletic Coordinator.
  • Assists school authorities with housing, discipline, and control involving rodeo student athletes
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Successful community college/university coaching experience is preferred.

  • Ability to learn and apply campus policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the College community and campus visitors
  • Ability to gather and analyze data necessary for informed decisions involving the community, students and employees
  • Skills in interpersonal communications are needed.
  • Must have the ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
  • Ability to operate and use standard office equipment

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary in nature and at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is performed during normal business hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.

Retirement

Eastern New Mexico University participates with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB), Social Security, and Medicare.


The University also offers supplemental retirement plans. 403b plans are available through TIAA/CREF, AIG VALIC, and MetLife. 475b plans are offered through TIAA/CREF.







Paid Time Off

Full time exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Leave accruals will be pro-rated for part time employees. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.







Employee Educational Assistance Plan

Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for one course (up to four credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
