Job Description
Position Overview: The Fire Alarm or Sprinkler Designer will be responsible for designing fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems for commercial buildings. This role requires a highly detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and a thorough understanding of fire protection systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with design software and a solid knowledge of industry codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop detailed fire alarm and sprinkler system designs for commercial projects.
* Create accurate and code-compliant design drawings and specifications.
* Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems.
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and constraints.
* Conduct site visits to gather necessary information for design development.
* Review and interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical plans.
* Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
* Prepare material and equipment specifications and cost estimates.
* Coordinate with installation teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
* Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning phases.
* Maintain thorough documentation of designs and revisions.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in fire alarm and sprinkler system design.
* Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation programs.
* Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, as well as local building codes.
* Excellent technical and analytical skills.
* Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Water-Based Systems Layout is a plus.
