Purpose and Scope:
Provide all inspection, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair (OM&R) of electrical components of facilities, lightning protection systems, facility and equipment grounds, including grounding grids (consisting of a combination of sea and chemical grounds), dining hall equipment, airfield lighting, navigational aids, and Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) to support the mission on Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF) in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP).
Essential Responsibilities:
Inspect, test, maintain, and repair lightning protection and facility and equipment grounds at least annually IAW AFMAN 32-1065 and The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Inspect and test sea grounds monthly. If repairs are required, then initiate repairs within 48 hours.
Inspect critical grounding following lightning strikes to confirm system integrity.
Perform operational checks of electrical systems in all critical facilities within five (5) calendar days prior to scheduled critical operations to ensure fully mission capable (FMC) status.
Ensure that all electrical equipment, lines, panel boxes, receptacles and circuit breakers are correctly marked including NEC identifier as applicable IAW NEC, UFC 3-560-01, and AFI 32-2001.
Ensure that all upgrades and changes to power panels are recorded on respective service locator cards on the power panel.
Perform electrical maintenance and repair work on all dining hall equipment, including electrical checks on upper and lower cutout deep fat fryers IAW AFI 32-2001.
Maintain and repair all airfield lighting and navigational aids IAW AFMAN 32-1040, Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) 3-535-01, and MIL- STD-3007.
Maintain, inspect and test grounding grids (consist of a combination of sea and chemical grounds) for all facilities and instrumentation IAW AFMAN 32-1065.
Maintain facility interior electrical systems including, wiring, switches, fixtures, outlets, lighting and other associated electrical appliances and equipment.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or equivalent training/experience.
Certified Electrician Credential with 3 years of experience. Must be qualified IAW AFMAN 32-1065.
Ability to read and write English is required.
Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
Possess a valid issued driver’s license, passport from their country and have the ability to obtain a work visa.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
Candidate should be other country national (OCN) or local national (LN).
Prefer candidate who has experience working on a US Government contract.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
